Poet of the week

Poet of the Week May 2nd 2018

This week we are celebrating a master of imagery +Phil Hall a superb poet, his ability to paint the world through his words leaves me awestruck, whether it be, the moors, frogs or kids playing footy out in the street, Phil hands his reader a beautifully crafted moment in time caught with rich vibrant diction and a down to earth essence...well done Mr :)

THE MOOR

You've never walked
Upon the desolate moor,
Deep clefted isolation
And ogre like granite tor.
The brooding void
Nurturing epic tales,
In driving rain
And howling gales.
Skies as black as pitch
Where buzzards soar,
Over heather and gorse
Upon the desolate moor.
Ancient stones
In circles stand,
What tales they tell
Of a Druids land.
Mist curls with deathly grip
Strangling fronds around travellers feet,
Over sodden bog
Of moss and peat.
A land unique in its rugged beauty
Unlike any other,
She's more of a crazy aunt
Than a loving mother.
Trees of a wizened, tortured soul
Scattered in haphazard display,
The mist seeps in once again
A moist darkness, replacing the day.
Houses dotted about
Upon the moors ancient divide,
Thick walled and resolute
A relief of sorts they provide.

But, then like a giants hand sweeping
The clouds on winds are swept away,
To uncover a depth of stunning colour
As the sun bathes a new, golden display.
Flowers peep from under rugged tor
Giving the boulders a necklace fine,
The streams sparkle in babbling rush
As fresh as the finest wine.
Sheep emerge from their slumber
A harvest from the close cropped grass,
And the shaggy little ponies
Skip in joyous abandon, in gladed pass.
Pipits flit amongst the stones
Dart of plumage, brown and mottled white,
Whilst the choughs wheel in the sky
A scene of rarest delight.
The stone circles with ancient, regal air
Dance to a sun drenched tune,
And granite stacks cast mighty shadow
Toward coastal path, and secretive dune.
The mist and her attendant wraiths
Are never far from the moor,
The ghostly miasma creeps slowly
Her brooding cloak shrouds all once more.
For this is Bodmin
In the land of Arthurian legend and magic,
Where folklore lives beside the everyday
Inspiring all, the lovers and the tragic.
Those who visit the moor are entranced
By her wild abandon, her beautiful face,
She is a living, vibrant creature
In all our hearts, she has a place.
