Poet of the week

POET OF THE WEEK
November 15th 2017

Our Poet of the week is Mr +Phil Hall I am always impressed with Phil's poetic ability to create diverse poems. From be-headings to threesomes with chocolate, yet his skill is never sharper then when he is writing about home. It is a pleasure and honor to have such poetry within our community.

From the POETS team, well done.

In Memory of our glorious dead RIP

IF YOU RECEIVE THIS

I know not why I’m here
As I scratch this letter to you,
With my pencil blunt
And mud, oil and blood
As my ink
If you should receive this,
I am gone.
I picture you sitting
Under a sky of brightest blue
Trees swaying
In a rose scented English summer breeze,
Whereas I sit
Amongst frightened men,
All with loved ones
And children unseen,
My love
We are about to go over.
Hell awaits us
But my King says I must be brave,
My country needs me
But I need you
Oh my darling
How I yearn for your smile.
The sky is red, black and orange
With a sickly sweet aroma,
Shells, non-stop shells
Churn up the already slaughtered
Scattered like macabre confetti
At the wedding of the dead.
I must finish now my darling
As the ladders have been placed,
I can hear the rattling of guns
“I love you, my dearest Alice”
The whistle is at his lips now
The waiting is at an end,
My hopes are at an end
Why Lord why?
“Pray for me Alice”

Dedicated to the souls of my beloved great uncles who fell in the Great war.
Their bodies lie in Flanders fields
With poppies and birdsong to give them eternal peace.
Never known but always remembered

Rest in peace.

Phil Hall June 2013

Special mentions

This week was very hard as we have had some amazingly vivid, rich poetry being created. These three diversely different poets bring so my skill and encouragement to POETS, there engagement within the community is valued as is their poetic skill, fresh delightful and rich in imagery.
